LEGO Minifigs Marvel Series 2 by weight
I’ve become one of those grown-ups that unashamedly like LEGO. In fact, I love LEGO.
What I’ve not been so keen on is their move to boxes for their minifigs. While I appreciate the environmental benefits, until now their limited edition minifies were sold in blind bags. It meant that you could take your chances, or with a little bit of practice, you could work out what minifig was inside. And that worked well, it allowed pot-luck but for those who wanted a particular minifig or a complete set, they did not have to spend a fortune to get it.
LEGO argue that you can swap or sell surplus minifigs, but as a middle-aged man I don’t see myself having many opportunities for swapsies, and really don’t think the cost of eBaying minifigs is worth it.
However, there is a solution, weighing them. And that’s what I did, using a cheapo set of digital scales from Amazon. (I’m fortunate that my to most convenient LEGO Stores, Battersea Power Station and Westfield London, are probably the best when it comes to friendly staff.)
The only weighing guide I could find online was on a fan site, Jay’s Brick Blog, and every other site seems to have reused this data. My first attempt was largely successful, but I couldn’t help feeling that more data is always better. So, below are the weights from Jay’s Brick Blog and what I measured for each box.

What I learned
- I spend too much on Lego.
- Jay’s Brick Blog was pretty much right, but it feels like there’s can be a big variance, and more data would help. My Goliath and second Beast, for example, were heavy and I thought they were other minifigs.
- Specifically on the She-Hulk and Beast minifigs, Beast rattles a lotmore, if you have two about that weight and the rattle isn’t immediately obviously different, you don’t have a She-Hulk and a Beast.
- Weighing probably won’t eliminate duplicates, but it will minimise them. And apart from those that are very different to others (Agatha Harkness), you can’t be absolutely confident.
- I’m not sure trying to get a full set in one go is the best way. Going for the spread of weights was a good tactic, but I suspect splitting it into two or three batches would have given me a better feel for weighing.
- The boxes really have taken the fun from getting the minifigs. I thought this was a really good series, but would I bother trying to get a complete set if not? Probably not.
